Pique (Lacoste) Fabric
Pique fabric is a distinctive textile product with its raised textured surface. The term ‘Pique’ comes from the French word ‘piquer,’ which refers to the weaving pattern of the fabric. Pique fabric can be produced from various materials, with the most popular being the cotton fiber used in the production of Lacoste pique fabric for polo shirts. Let’s delve into the question, ‘What is pique fabric?’ in more detail.
Pique fabric is created through a specific weaving technique that uses a combination of threads to form a raised texture on the fabric surface. The texture is formed by weaving a set of threads called the warp over and under another set of threads called the weft. The weft threads are then pushed onto the fabric surface, creating a raised, textured effect.
Thessaloniki Fabric
Thessaloniki fabric is a type of fabric that resembles the appearance of the jersey knit used in sweaters. It is a type of knit fabric with an uneven weave, giving it a different look on each side. Thessaloniki knit fabric comes in both thin and thick varieties and is one of the fabrics knitted on double-bed knitting machines, falling into the category of double-layered knit fabrics.
Three-Thread Fabric
Three-thread fabric is typically woven from three different threads, making it thicker compared to other fabrics and suitable for use in the fall and winter months. The front and back sides of the fabric are different. It does not shrink or stretch when washed. It is divided into three types: Unstarched Three-Thread, Starched Three-Thread, and Diagonal Three-Thread.
Starched Three-Thread Fabric
Starched three-thread jersey fabric undergoes a brushing process on the inner side to create a cottony and soft surface. The fabric is quite thick and possesses insulating properties, making it a trend in winter fashion. It is suitable for men, women, and children’s sportswear fashion.
Unstarched Three-Thread Fabric
This type of fabric is produced in a flat manner without undergoing a brushing process on the inner side. It is preferred during winter months due to its thickness and insulating properties. It is a suitable fabric for women, men, and children’s sportswear fashion.
Diagonal Three-Thread Fabric
The weaves on the backside of diagonal three-thread fabric are crosswise. With diagonal fabric, you can sew sweatshirts, long tracksuit tops, casual dresses, and sport jackets.
Two-Thread Fabric
Among knitted fabric varieties, products such as sweatshirts, tracksuits, hooded tracksuit tops, and bottoms are produced using a 70% ratio of two-thread fabric. Two-thread knitted fabrics appear as lined fabrics.
Two-thread fabrics are produced by stacking needles and locks in a round knitting machine in a needle and lock arrangement. Number measurements are obtained by transferring two different-sized threads to the same needle. Thus, the ground thread and lining thread are used together. The lining thread is thicker and suitable for the twisting process. The lining thread should be twice as thick as the ground thread.
Generally, they possess the following characteristics:
- The front and back sides are different.
- They are thick fabrics used in the spring season.
- Not preferred as summer fabrics.
- Due to their high stain retention feature, they should be used with care.
- When knitted with lycra (elastane), they exhibit excellent flexibility.
Jersey Fabric
Single jersey fabrics are among the most commonly found types of fabrics in the market. Produced only on circular knitting machines, single jersey fabrics are knitted smoothly from cotton or cotton-blend yarns.
The front of the single jersey fabric is smooth, while the back has a loop structure, making the front and back different. Depending on the yarns used, single jersey fabric varieties can be knitted with single-ply yarns and high weight. Produced in double-ply or different variations, single jersey fabrics are typically used in the production of slips, tank tops, undershirts, t-shirts, and lingerie.
There are two types of single jersey fabric: lycra single jersey and plain single jersey.
Printed Fabric
Printed fabric is a type of fabric in which patterns, images or prints are usually created by printing them onto the fabric. These prints are usually made using a variety of techniques and are applied to the surface of the fabric. Prints can come in a variety of colors and patterns and can be made using different materials depending on the type of fabric.
Fabric printing is often used in the textile industry and is preferred in clothing, home textiles, decoration and many other areas. Printed fabrics are available in different materials and textures and are used by designers or manufacturers to make different products such as clothes, curtains, pillowcases, tablecloths, etc. Printed fabrics can be patterned or photo-printed and can also be used to create personalized products.
